Lord Viṣṇu (in discourse to Garuḍa/Vainateya)

Concept: Timing/position and auspicious alignment condition outcomes; when auspicious influence shifts, efforts become niṣphala (fruitless) regardless of left/right.

Vedantic Theme: Karma’s dependence on saṅkalpa, kāla, and nimitta; prudence in action under uncertain signs.

Application: Before major undertakings, stabilize conditions—clarify intent, remove confusion, and avoid acting amid volatile signals (mental or situational).

Primary Rasa: bhayanaka

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: liminal/omenic-space

Related Themes: Garuda Purana: omen-reading and yogic sign interpretation around death and transitions; Garuda Purana: emphasis on nimitta (signs) for success/failure

Śivā (auspicious omen/power)

FAQs

This verse stresses that timing/positioning and omenic shifts of “śivā” (auspicious influence) can determine whether an act or inquiry yields results, reflecting the text’s concern for correct ritual and situational alignment.

Indirectly: by emphasizing auspicious alignment and omens, it supports the broader Garuḍa Purāṇa theme that subtle forces and proper observances affect outcomes—ritual efficacy and post-death procedures depend on correctness rather than mere intention.

Before important vows, rites, or decisions, prioritize clarity, proper procedure, and a calm, auspicious setting—acting in confusion or against clear warning signs often leads to wasted effort.
