ब्रह्मचर्येण तपसा देवा मृत्युमपाघ्नत । इन्द्रो ह ब्रह्मचर्येण देवेभ्यः स्व१राभरत्

IAST Transliteration

brahmacaryéṇa tápasā devā́ mṛtyúm ápāghnata | índro ha brahmacaryéṇa devébhyaḥ svàr ā́bharat ||

English Translation (Griffith/Whitney)

By holy studentship, by fervent austerity, the Gods smote Death and drave him far away. Indra, in sooth, by studentship brought heaven’s light and won it for the Gods.

Translation

Nhờ Phạm hạnh và khổ hạnh rực lửa (tapas), các thần đánh bại Tử thần và xua đuổi hắn đi xa. Indra quả thật nhờ Phạm hạnh đã đem ánh sáng cõi trời về cho chư thần và giành được ánh sáng ấy cho họ.
