FAQs

It specifies approved and disapproved food substances for Śrāddha offerings—endorsing dairy (curd, ghee, milk) and certain grains/pulses (priyaṅgu, masūra), while excluding vārtāku and kodrava.

Alongside theology, the Agni Purāṇa preserves practical dharma-śāstra style guidance—down to concrete lists of ritual-appropriate foods—showing its compendium character across ritual law, purity norms, and household practice.

Using prescribed, purity-aligned offerings is taught to support the efficacy of Śrāddha, maintaining ritual correctness (śuddhi) and thereby securing merit (puṇya) and proper satisfaction of the ancestors (pitṛs).
