इत्य् आदिमहापुराणे आग्नेये स्नानविधिकथनं नाम द्वाविंशोध्यायः अथ त्रयोविंशोध्यायः पूजाविधिकथनं नारद उवाच वक्ष्ये पूजाविधिं विप्रा यत् कृत्वा सर्वमाप्नुयात् प्रक्षालिताङ्घ्रिराचम्य वाग्यतः कृतरक्षकः
ity ādimahāpurāṇe āgneye snānavidhikathanaṃ nāma dvāviṃśodhyāyaḥ atha trayoviṃśodhyāyaḥ pūjāvidhikathanaṃ nārada uvāca vakṣye pūjāvidhiṃ viprā yat kṛtvā sarvamāpnuyāt prakṣālitāṅghrirācamya vāgyataḥ kṛtarakṣakaḥ
Như vậy, trong Agni Purāṇa thuộc Đại Purāṇa nguyên thủy, chương hai mươi hai mang tên “Trình bày quy tắc tắm gội” đã kết thúc. Nay bắt đầu chương hai mươi ba, “Trình bày quy tắc thờ phụng”. Nārada nói: “Hỡi các bà-la-môn, ta sẽ giảng nghi thức cúng bái; ai thực hành sẽ đạt mọi kết quả mong cầu. Sau khi rửa chân, làm ācamanam (nhấp nước thanh tịnh), giữ lời nói tiết chế, và thực hiện nghi thức rakṣā (hộ trì), rồi mới tiến hành thờ phụng.”
