īśvara uvāca | śṛṇu devi pravakṣyāmi māhātmyaṃ brahmasambhavam | yasya śravaṇamātreṇa mucyate sarvapātakaiḥ
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Prabhāsakṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Devī (Pārvatī)
Scene: Īśvara begins the proclamation: Devī listens as the ‘Brahmā-born’ greatness is announced, promising liberation from sins by mere hearing.
Reverent listening to māhātmya (sacred glory) is itself a purifying practice that destroys sin and prepares one for liberation.
The immediate frame is Prabhāsa Kṣetra Māhātmya; the chapter proceeds to locate Brahmā’s supreme place within the Prabhāsa sacred geography.
Śravaṇa (devout hearing) of the māhātmya is presented as the efficacious practice.
