iti maṃtreṇārghyam | tato vidhiniṣedhau ca grāhyau bhaktyā hareḥ puraḥ | cāturmāsye samāyāte sarvalokamahāsukhe
Brahmā (instructional narration)
Type: kshetra
Listener: viprendra (contextual)
Scene: In a Viṣṇu temple, the devotee completes ārghya and then takes a vow before the deity; a calendar-like depiction of four monsoon months appears, with symbols of restraint (simple food, japa beads, charity pot).
Devotion is completed by discipline: worship is followed by adopting ethical and ritual restraints during Cāturmāsya.
The verse praises the sacred season (Cāturmāsya) rather than a particular tirtha, within the tīrthamāhātmya setting.
Perform arghya with mantra first; then, before Hari, formally take up vidhis (injunctions) and niṣedhas (restraints) for Cāturmāsya.
