tasminnahani pāpātmā yonnamaśnāti mānavaḥ | tasmātsarvaprayatnena saṃprāpte harivāsare
Narrative voice (contextual instruction within Tīrthamāhātmya; speaker not explicit in this verse)
Tirtha: Hari-vāsara observance at Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra (contextual)
Type: kshetra
Scene: A devotee stands before a shrine on Hari’s day, refusing food, holding a water-pot and tulasī, while others prepare offerings; the mood is disciplined and serene.
Self-restraint on Hari’s sacred day is emphasized; indulgence (eating) is portrayed as spiritually harmful in that vrata context.
The instruction is embedded in the chapter’s tīrtha setting, later tied to Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra and Hari’s śayana/bodhana observances.
Upavāsa/food-restraint on Harivāsara (commonly Ekādaśī) is prescribed.
