ārāmadrumadātāraḥ phalapuṣpavatā pathā | chāyayā ca sukhaṃ yāṃti tathā ye cchatradā narāḥ
Lomaharṣaṇa/Sūta (deduced for Māheśvara-khaṇḍa narrative style)
Listener: a sage/audience (contextual)
Scene: A radiant path lined with fruiting, flowering trees; travelers move comfortably under cool shade. Donors are shown planting groves and offering umbrellas; the afterlife path mirrors these gifts.
Compassionate public-benefit gifts (shade, trees, shelter) return as comfort and auspicious support on the soul’s journey.
No particular tīrtha; the verse praises dāna as a universal dharmic act with afterlife benefit.
Dāna is prescribed implicitly: planting/gifting groves and trees, and giving umbrellas (chatra-dāna).
