adattamauṃjīdānā ye ye cādāraparigrahāḥ | tebhyo nirvāpitaṃ piṃḍamiha hyakṣayatāṃ vrajet
Skanda (deduced: Kāśīkhaṇḍa commonly Skanda speaking to Agastya)
Tirtha: Kapiladhārikā (contextual cluster within Kāśī pitṛ-tīrthas)
Type: ghat
Scene: A pilgrim at a Kāśī tīrtha-bank offers rice-balls (piṇḍa) with kuśa grass and water-libations; subtle ancestral figures receive satisfaction; the city’s ghāṭs and temples glow in the background.
Kāśī’s tīrtha-power makes even imperfectly lived lives eligible for enduring benefit when piṇḍa is offered with faith.
The verse speaks generally of the local Kāśī-tīrtha context in Adhyāya 12, where multiple named tīrthas are being praised.
Offering a piṇḍa (piṇḍa-dāna) as part of śrāddha/ancestral propitiation, yielding akṣaya (imperishable) fruit.
