The woman pilgrim

Listener: Brāhmaṇapuṅgava (addressed indirectly through her speech)

Scene: A stark self-reckoning: the woman gestures in self-reproach (‘dhik mām’), with a faint mirage-like scene of sensual pleasure dissolving into a looming abyss or dark path labeled ‘durgati’; the brāhmaṇa stands as steady witness.

FAQs

Fleeting sense-pleasure can lead to lasting suffering; repentance begins with honest self-critique and resolve to change.

No tīrtha is named in this verse; it continues the repentance episode during the Gokarṇa visit.

None directly; it prepares the ground for prāyaścitta and disciplined living.
