etanmahākhyānamaghaughanāśanaṃ gaurīmaheśavratapuṇyakīrtanam | bhaktyā sakṛdyaḥ śṛṇuyācca kīrttayedbhuktvā sa bhogānpadameti śāśvatam
Sūta (deduced from surrounding Purāṇic narration style; explicit speaker appears at the start of the next adhyāya)
Listener: Ṛṣis/śaunaka-ādi audience (frame-tradition)
Scene: A recitation assembly: Sūta or a narrator chanting the Gaurī–Maheśa-vrata kathā to attentive devotees; Śiva and Pārvatī bestowing grace; a symbolic stream of sins dissolving into light; devotees receiving both prosperity and liberation.
Devotional hearing and recitation of a vrata-māhātmya is itself a dharmic act that purifies sin and leads toward an eternal spiritual attainment.
No specific tīrtha is named in this verse; it is a general phalaśruti praising the Gaurī–Maheśvara Vrata narrative.
Śravaṇa (hearing) and kīrtana (devotional recitation) of the māhātmya, even once, are prescribed as merit-producing acts.
