upakārāya deveśa eṣa me vara uttamaḥ | evamuktastu devena āruroha dvijottamaḥ
Narrator (contextual); the verse quotes a dvijottama addressing Devēśa (Śiva)
Scene: After stating the boon is for others’ welfare, the brāhmaṇa is shown stepping onto or ascending toward a divine vimāna, with Śiva’s sanction implied.
The highest merit is sought not for private gain but for the welfare of others—selfless intention sanctifies spiritual attainments.
The Revā (Narmadā) sacred region is the broader setting; the narrative frames the power of tīrthas on the Narmadā.
No explicit ritual is prescribed here; it highlights the ethical motive (upakāra) behind seeking a boon.
