kṛtvā tatkadanaṃ ghoraṃ nandā devī sureśvarī | yasmātsnātā viśālākṣī tena nandāhradaḥ smṛtaḥ
Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Nandā-hrada
Type: kund
Listener: Bhārata (addressed in adjacent verse; implied audience)
Scene: After a fierce act of destruction, Devī Nandā—wide-eyed and radiant—descends to a serene lake on the Narmadā, bathing as the waters glow with śakti; sages and celestials witness the consecration of the hrada’s name.
A tīrtha becomes supremely holy through the direct presence and acts of the Divine; the place-name itself preserves that sacred memory.
Nandā-hrada (Lake of Goddess Nandā).
Snāna is implied as the sanctifying act associated with the site—Devī bathed there, establishing the lake’s holiness.
