द्वन्द्वयुद्धवर्णनम् / Description of the Duel-Combats
ततः क्रोधपरीतात्मा कार्तिकेयं जलंधरः । गदया ताडयामास हृदये दैत्यपुंगवः
tataḥ krodhaparītātmā kārtikeyaṃ jalaṃdharaḥ | gadayā tāḍayāmāsa hṛdaye daityapuṃgavaḥ
پھر غضب سے بھرے ہوئے دل والا، دَیتوں کا سردار جلندھر، گدا سے کارتیکیہ کے سینۂ دل (ہردیہ) پر زور سے جا لگا۔
Sūta Gosvāmin
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Vīrabhadra
Role: destructive
The verse highlights krodha (anger) as a binding pasha that drives the asuric nature toward violence; in Shaiva Siddhanta, such agitation veils discernment and distances the soul from Shiva’s grace (anugraha), whereas the divine forces stand for dharma and inner mastery.
Though the verse is a battle scene, it supports Saguna Shiva devotion by showing how divine order is protected through Shiva’s hosts and sons like Kārttikeya; worship of the Linga trains steadiness and purity so the devotee is not ruled by krodha like Jalandhara.
A practical takeaway is krodha-śamana through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and mindful restraint of speech and breath, cultivating inner calm before conflict arises.
