देवस्तुतिः (Devastuti) — Hymn/Praise of the Devas
सनत्कुमार उवाच । अथ तत्प्रभया दग्धा देवा हीन्द्रादयस्तथा । संमंत्र्य दुःखितास्सर्वे ब्रह्माणं शरणं ययुः
sanatkumāra uvāca | atha tatprabhayā dagdhā devā hīndrādayastathā | saṃmaṃtrya duḥkhitāssarve brahmāṇaṃ śaraṇaṃ yayuḥ
سنَتکُمار نے کہا—پھر اُس تجلّی سے جھلس کر اِندر وغیرہ سب دیوتا غمگین ہوئے؛ باہم مشورہ کر کے سب نے پناہ کے لیے برہما کی شरण لی۔
Sanatkumara
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Rudra
Cosmic Event: Overpowering divine tejas (radiance) afflicting the devas—typical Purāṇic ‘tejas’ crisis motif.
It highlights śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) as a Shaiva virtue: even powerful devas become helpless before a higher, overwhelming radiance, prompting humility, consultation, and turning toward a higher authority for right discernment.
The “radiance” motif echoes how Saguna manifestations (like the Linga’s jyoti) can surpass the gods’ capacities; the proper response is reverent surrender and seeking guidance rather than asserting ego—an attitude central to Linga-upāsanā.
The takeaway is to adopt śaraṇāgati through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and a calm, consultative mind (saṃmantraṇa) before action; in practice, this can be paired with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders of humility and devotion.
