शिवविहारवर्णनम् (Śivavihāra-varṇana) — “Description of Śiva’s Divine Pastimes/Sojourn”
पुनरन्यां स संप्राप्य विषेव्य शुभपाणिकाम् । दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रं च विजहौ विरहज्वरम्
punaranyāṃ sa saṃprāpya viṣevya śubhapāṇikām | divyaṃ varṣasahasraṃ ca vijahau virahajvaram
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Cosmic Event: divya-varṣa (deva-time) longevity motif
It shows how worldly attachment produces “viraha-jvara,” the burning pain of separation; relief gained through renewed sense-enjoyment is temporary, whereas Shaiva teaching ultimately points to freedom from pāśa (bondage) through devotion to Pati (Śiva).
By contrast: the verse depicts soothing sorrow through worldly companionship, while Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship redirects the mind from transient consolations toward स्थिर-भक्ति (steady devotion) and inner purification, leading beyond recurring cycles of attachment and loss.
A practical takeaway is to cool the ‘inner fever’ through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with rudrākṣa and Tripuṇḍra (bhasma), cultivating vairāgya and steadiness rather than seeking repeated sensory substitutes.
