Proposal for Rāma’s Installation as Heir-Apparent
इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा राजा तेषां मनःप्रियं।अजानन्निव जिज्ञासुरिदं वचनमब्रवीत्।।2.2.23।।
iti tad-vacanaṃ śrutvā rājā teṣāṃ manaḥ-priyam |
ajānann iva jijñāsur idaṃ vacanam abravīt || 2.2.23 ||
ان کی دلوں کو بھانے والی بات سن کر راجا نے، گویا کچھ نہ جانتا ہو، اُن کی نیت کو اور زیادہ جانچنے کے لیے یہ کلام فرمایا۔
Having heard them king Dasaratha, pretending as though he was not aware of their heart's desire but was now wishing to ascertain it, spoke these words:
Dharma includes careful verification before major state decisions. Daśaratha’s desire to confirm the assembly’s intent reflects satya-oriented governance: acting only after ensuring sincerity and clarity.
After hearing the assembly’s request, Daśaratha responds cautiously, seeking confirmation rather than immediately accepting.
Daśaratha’s prudence and respect for due process—he treats counsel seriously and verifies motives before acting.
