Unspecified (context-dependent within Svarga-khaṇḍa 58; verse reads as prescriptive instruction)

Concept: Austerity supports yoga-abhyāsa; disciplined living and mantra/adhyāya (here ‘Rudra’) stabilize the mind for higher realization.

Application: Adopt a ‘lightness’ practice (simplify diet/possessions), keep a daily yoga/meditation slot, and add steady scriptural recitation—consistency over extremity.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Type: forest

FAQs

The verse recommends austere living (such as subsisting on withered leaves), undertaking severe disciplines (kṛcchra), sustained yoga practice, and constant recitation/study connected with Rudra (Śiva).

It implies one who regularly recites, studies, or keeps continual contemplative engagement with Rudra—often understood as Śiva-mantras, hymns, or Rudra-centered scriptural study.

Steadiness (sadā) is central: disciplined simplicity, perseverance in austerity, and consistent spiritual practice (yoga and Rudra-recitation) are presented as the path of purification and attainment.
