Narrator (contextual voice of the Purāṇic narration; the verse describes Śaṅkukarṇa’s act rather than direct speech).

Concept: True praise culminates in embodied surrender (daṇḍavat) and the primal mantra (Oṁ), uniting speech, body, and mind in devotion.

Application: After prayer, seal intention with a physical gesture (bowing, kneeling, or mindful prostration if able) and a single mantra (Oṁ or a chosen nāma) to integrate devotion into the body.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: temple

FAQs

“Kapardin” is an epithet of Śiva meaning “the one with matted hair (kaparda),” highlighting his ascetic, yogic form and divine sovereignty.

“Daṇḍavat” refers to full prostration—lying straight like a staff—signifying complete surrender, humility, and devotion before the deity.

The verse associates devotion with sacred sound: uttering Oṁ while bowing expresses concentrated reverence, aligning speech, body, and mind in worship.
