nārada uvāca | tava prasādato jñāto vipraḥ puṇyatamaśca yaḥ | yathā jānāmi deveśa kriyayā brāhmaṇādhamam
Nārada
Concept: Brahminhood is measured by conduct (ācāra) and inner virtue, not merely by birth or claim; one should learn both the marks of excellence and the causes of degradation.
Application: Regularly audit one’s daily disciplines (truthfulness, purity, worship, study) and seek correction from trustworthy teachers; avoid complacency based on status.

Sandhi Resolution Notes:
Nārada is speaking. He asks the Lord of the gods to explain how a brāhmaṇa becomes ‘most virtuous’ and, conversely, how improper conduct can make a brāhmaṇa the ‘lowest’.
It implies that virtue is not merely a matter of birth or learning; it is revealed and determined by one’s conduct (kriyā)—one’s actions, discipline, and ethical behavior.
The ethical lesson is accountability: spiritual and social standing are upheld or degraded by one’s deeds, so right conduct is essential to maintaining true holiness.
