Maithilī (Sītā)

FAQs

“Maithilī” is a common epithet of Sītā, daughter of Mithilā (King Janaka’s realm), frequently used in Rāmāyaṇa-related narratives and Purāṇic retellings.

It expresses viraha (pain of separation) and longing: time feels unbearably prolonged when one is distressed or awaiting reunion.

The verse highlights steadfastness in service and the endurance of hardship; it also suggests that sincere effort and guidance ("through me") can lead to attaining what is most cherished.
