FAQs

It prescribes a form of go-dāna (cow-gift): adorning a cow with gold, ritually leading her into water, and then gifting her to a Brāhmaṇa who chants the Sāmaveda.

The verse highlights gifting to a qualified Vedic specialist—here, a Sāmaveda chanter—reflecting the Purāṇic ideal that dāna is most meritorious when offered to a worthy recipient associated with sacred learning and ritual sound (sāman).

It emphasizes disciplined generosity: charity is not merely giving, but giving respectfully (adorned offering), ritually (performed with prescribed acts), and discerningly (to a qualified recipient).
