Śatrughna’s Entry into Ahicchatrā
Temptation of Sumada and the Goddess’s Boon
करिष्यत्यश्वमेधं हि सर्वसंभारशोभितम् । तस्य भ्राता महावीरः शत्रुघ्नः परवीरहा
kariṣyatyaśvamedhaṃ hi sarvasaṃbhāraśobhitam | tasya bhrātā mahāvīraḥ śatrughnaḥ paravīrahā
Uncertain from single-verse context (likely within a Pulastya–Bhīṣma narration frame in the Pātālakhaṇḍa).
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Sandhi Resolution Notes: करिष्यत्यश्वमेधम् = करिष्यति + अश्वमेधम्. sarvasaṃbhāraśobhitam is treated as a tatpurusha compound qualifying अश्वमेधम्.
The Aśvamedha is a major Vedic royal sacrifice associated with sovereignty and ritual legitimacy, described here as being performed with complete and splendid preparations.
Śatrughna is identified as the (king’s) brother and praised as a “great hero,” characterized as a slayer of enemy warriors (paravīrahā).
The verse highlights royal responsibility expressed through sanctioned ritual (yajña) and the protective valor of a kṣatriya, presenting order, legitimacy, and defense as complementary duties.
