FAQs

It prescribes three Prājāpatya expiations, three Cāndrāyaṇa (lunar-regulated) observances, and the gift of three cows (go-dāna) as a combined means of purification.

Cāndrāyaṇa is a vow/fast regulated by the waxing and waning of the moon, traditionally involving measured intake that increases and decreases with the lunar phases, used as a form of discipline and expiation.

It links inner purification to disciplined self-restraint (vrata/prāyaścitta) together with outward restitution and generosity (dāna), suggesting that ethical repair includes both personal austerity and charitable giving.
