Unspecified narrator addressing a dvija (contextual instruction within the chapter)

Concept: Night-long vigil for Hari, especially when performed as a couple, yields enduring proximity to Hari—devotional wakefulness becomes spiritual wakefulness.

Application: On Ekādaśī (or Dvādaśī night in some traditions), keep a gentle vigil: kīrtana, reading, japa; avoid harshness—let wakefulness be mindful, not restless.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: shringara

Type: celestial_realm

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A couple sits through the night in a temple courtyard, singing Hari’s names as rows of oil lamps flicker and cast moving halos on carved pillars. The sky is moonlit, and above the temple spire a faint vision of Vaikuṇṭha shimmers, suggesting that their wakeful devotion is already a residence near Hari.","primary_figures":["Vishnu (as temple deity)","husband and wife (devotees)","optional: kīrtana group with cymbals and mṛdaṅga"],"setting":"Temple courtyard at night with lamp rows, tulasi courtyard element, and a visible sanctum doorway; devotees seated on mats with scripture stand.","lighting_mood":"moonlit","color_palette":["midnight blue","silver moonlight","lamp gold","marigold orange","jade green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: night vigil scene with Vishnu in sanctum glowing with gold leaf aura; foreground couple with cymbals and scripture, rows of lamps rendered with embossed gold, rich textiles, ornate pillars, gem-studded ornaments, dramatic contrast of deep blue night and golden radiance.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: lyrical moonlit temple courtyard, delicate lamp flames, couple seated close in devotional singing, soft Himalayan-like cool palette even if set in plains; refined faces, gentle clouds, a faint Vaikuṇṭha vision in the sky.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized night vigil with bold outlines, rhythmic lamp motifs, Vishnu icon in sanctum, devotees in symmetrical arrangement; traditional red-yellow-green palette adapted to night with deep blues and strong highlights.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central temple shrine with Vishnu icon, surrounding border of lamps and lotuses; devotees in kīrtana forming a circular mandala, deep indigo cloth ground, gold highlights, peacocks perched on temple parapets."}

Hari (Vishnu)

FAQs

It teaches performing a jāgaraṇa—staying awake in devotional vigil for Hari (Viṣṇu), ideally as a couple (husband and wife together).

The promised fruit is prolonged residence in Hari’s abode (Harer-niketana), together with one’s husband.

The verse emphasizes shared devotional discipline and steadfast bhakti: worship and vigil offered to Hari are portrayed as spiritually elevating and unifying for householders.
