Concept: Puṇya accrued through sanctioned sacred practice yields both worldly flourishing (yaśas, vṛddhi, putra) and otherworldly ascent (svarga), while also purifying the practitioner.

Application: Treat daily worship, charity, tīrtha remembrance, and vrata discipline as a holistic regimen: purity of conduct + steadiness of practice + devotional intention, rather than mere ritualism.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

FAQs

It is a phalaśruti-style statement listing the spiritual and worldly benefits—merit, fame, longevity, heavenly attainment, purity, offspring, and prosperity—of a praised act or observance (specified in surrounding verses).

Not in this standalone line; it summarizes results. The specific act (e.g., a vow, tīrtha-visit, charity, or recitation) must be taken from the immediate context of Adhyaya 27.

“Svargavāsa” indicates attainment of heavenly realms as a karmic fruit, while “putrada” indicates the blessing of progeny (often expressed as ‘sons’ in traditional phrasing), along with broader prosperity and continuity of family life.
