Unclear from single-verse context (addressing Vyāsa)

Concept: When an obstacle manifests, the wise recognize it clearly and apply an appropriate śānti—here, homa—rather than surrendering to confusion.

Application: When spiritual practice is disrupted (doubt, conflict, lethargy), diagnose the obstacle without self-hatred; perform a concrete corrective act—prayer, japa, charity, or a simple homa/ārati—then resume practice steadily.

FAQs

It advises that a present obstacle (vighna) has manifested and therefore a homa (fire-offering) should be performed as a remedial rite.

It suggests an impediment taking a concrete, experiential form—often understood as a disruptive condition requiring ritual or spiritual counter-measures.

In Purāṇic ritual logic, homa is a purificatory and propitiatory act used to remove obstacles, restore auspiciousness, and align the situation with dharma and successful completion of rites.
