The Greatness of Haridvāra
Gaṅgādvāra-māhātmya
देवि तिष्ठति यद्गेहे माहात्म्यं लिखितं त्विदम् । तद्गृहे सर्पचौराग्निग्रहराजभयं नहि ॥ ५५ ॥
devi tiṣṭhati yadgehe māhātmyaṃ likhitaṃ tvidam | tadgṛhe sarpacaurāgnigraharājabhayaṃ nahi || 55 ||
اے دیوی! جس گھر میں یہ لکھا ہوا ماہاتمیہ محفوظ ہو، اس گھر میں سانپ، چور، آگ، گرہ پیڑا اور شاہی خوف کا اندیشہ نہیں رہتا۔
Narada (teaching within a māhātmya context)
Vrata: none
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"adbhuta","secondary_rasa":"bhakti","emotional_journey":"Wonder at the protective power of the written māhātmya, moving into devotional confidence and fearlessness."}
It teaches that preserving a written māhātmya in one’s home functions as a dhārmic safeguard, where sacred remembrance and textual presence are said to generate protective merit (puṇya) and ward off calamities.
By valuing the written māhātmya, the verse emphasizes constant proximity to devotional praise and sacred narrative—an accessible form of bhakti through śravaṇa-smaraṇa (hearing/remembering) supported by keeping the text.
It directly references graha-bhaya (planetary fear), aligning with Jyotiṣa (a Vedāṅga) in the idea of planetary afflictions and their pacification through dharmic, text-centered remedies.
