The Greatness of Haridvāra
Gaṅgādvāra-māhātmya
स तु स्याद्वाक्पतिः साक्षात्प्रभाकर इवापरः । अथ याते प्रयागादिपुण्यतीर्थे पृथूके ॥ ४५ ॥
sa tu syādvākpatiḥ sākṣātprabhākara ivāparaḥ | atha yāte prayāgādipuṇyatīrthe pṛthūke || 45 ||
Narada (narrating within Uttara-Bhaga Tirtha-mahatmya)
Vrata: none
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"adbhuta","secondary_rasa":"vira","emotional_journey":"Moves from a striking promised attainment (mastery of speech) to narrative momentum as Pṛthūka proceeds to famed tīrthas beginning with Prayāga."}
The verse presents tīrtha-yātrā (pilgrimage to sacred fords like Prayāga) as producing refined inner merit that manifests outwardly as clarity, radiance, and mastery of speech—signs of accumulated puṇya and sāttvika transformation.
While not explicitly naming bhakti, it supports a bhakti-aligned practice: honoring holy places connected with divine presence and sacred tradition. Such reverence and disciplined pilgrimage cultivate purity and devotional disposition, yielding auspicious qualities like truthful, luminous speech.
The direct theme is vāk (speech), which connects practically to Vyākaraṇa and Śikṣā (correct language and pronunciation). The verse implies that spiritual merit can enhance one’s command of expression—useful for mantra-recitation, teaching, and śāstra discourse.
