The Greatness of Kāśī (Kāśī-māhātmya) and Avimukta’s Liberative Power
kālāgnirudrasāyujyaṃ te prayānti ca mohini | kurvantyanaśanaṃ ye tu śivabhaktāḥ suniścitāḥ || 57 ||
Narada (teaching in a mahatmya context; addressed to Mohinī)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: vira
It states that steadfast Śiva-bhaktas who practice disciplined fasting gain a high spiritual fruit—sāyujya (union) with Kālāgnirudra—indicating liberation-like proximity/identity with a fierce divine form.
Bhakti here is not merely emotion but firm resolve (suniścaya) expressed through vrata-like discipline (anaśana). The verse links devotional austerity to a definitive spiritual destination (sāyujya).
Ritual discipline (kalpa-oriented vrata practice) is implied: regulated fasting as a vow undertaken with intention and faith, showing how observance supports a stated spiritual goal.
