Mohinī-Saṃmohana
The Enchantment of Mohinī
उद्वहस्व महीपाल गृह्योक्तविधिना हि माम् । अनूढा कन्यका राजन् यदि गर्भं बिभर्ति हि ॥ २ ॥
udvahasva mahīpāla gṛhyoktavidhinā hi mām | anūḍhā kanyakā rājan yadi garbhaṃ bibharti hi || 2 ||
A maiden (kanyā) addressing the king (mahīpāla/rājan) within the narrative of Adhyaya 13
Vrata: none
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"shanta","secondary_rasa":"karuna","emotional_journey":"A composed but urgent appeal: the maiden requests lawful marriage, underscored by anxiety about the grave fault of pregnancy outside marriage."}
It underscores dharma as alignment with śāstra: life-transitions like marriage should be sanctified through prescribed domestic rites, protecting both social order and individual religious merit.
Indirectly: by insisting on śāstric conduct (gṛhya-vidhi), it supports a sattvic, regulated household life that is traditionally considered conducive to stable worship and long-term devotional discipline.
Gṛhya-vidhi (domestic ritual procedure) is explicitly invoked—practical kalpa-related knowledge (ritual manuals/sūtra tradition) governing vivāha (marriage) and household sacraments.
