The Greatness of the Gaṅgā

The verse highlights the Purāṇic emphasis on vaṃśa (lineage) and the continuity of dharma through ancestry—knowing one’s origins is presented as part of understanding one’s duties and place in sacred history.
This specific verse is narrative rather than devotional instruction; it sets up the context in which dharma and sacred history are taught—often leading later to teachings where devotion to Viṣṇu and righteous kingship are linked.
The verse chiefly reflects itihāsa–purāṇa style genealogical inquiry (vaṃśa); it indirectly relates to accurate naming and lineage-recording, but no explicit Vedāṅga (like vyākaraṇa or jyotiṣa) is taught in this line.
