Gṛhastha-praveśa: Vivāha-bheda, Ācāra-śauca, Śrāddha-kāla, and Vaiṣṇava-lakṣaṇa
na durjanaiḥ saha vase nnāśāstraṃ śrṛṇuyāttathā | āsavadyūtagīteṣu dvijastu na rartiṃ caret || 29 ||
Sanatkumara (in instruction to Narada within the Upadesha dialogue)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches that purity of association and purity of what one hears are essential for protecting dharma; indulgence in intoxicants, gambling, and sensual entertainment weakens discrimination (viveka) and pulls the mind away from spiritual progress.
Bhakti requires a steady, sattvic mind; avoiding durjana-sanga and addictive distractions preserves inner clarity, making remembrance of Bhagavan and disciplined worship easier and more consistent.
It emphasizes śikṣā-like discipline over speech and hearing (what teachings one listens to) and the dharmic application of śāstra—discerning śāstra from nāśāstra as a practical rule for daily conduct.
