Ekādaśī Vrata-Vidhi and the Galava–Bhadrashīla Itihāsa
Dharmakīrti before Yama
एकादशीदिने यस्तु भोक्तुमिच्छति मानवः । स भोक्तुं सर्वपापानि स्पृहयालुर्नसंशयः ॥ ६ ॥
ekādaśīdine yastu bhoktumicchati mānavaḥ | sa bhoktuṃ sarvapāpāni spṛhayālurnasaṃśayaḥ || 6 ||
جو انسان ایکادشی کے دن کھانا چاہتا ہے، وہ بے شک تمام گناہوں کو اپنے اوپر لینے کی ہی خواہش رکھتا ہے۔
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada on vrata-dharma)
Vrata: Ekādaśī-vrata
Primary Rasa: raudra
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
It frames Ekadashi as a strict vrata-day where eating is treated as a deliberate invitation to pāpa (sin), emphasizing restraint as a purifier of conduct and intention.
By urging self-control on Ekadashi, it supports Vishnu-bhakti in practice: the devotee prioritizes remembrance and discipline over sense-gratification, making worship and japa steadier.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied through vrata-niyamas—observances like fasting/food restriction tied to a tithi (Ekadashi) within the Vedic calendrical-ritual framework.
