śālagrāmaśilāgre tu madhyāhne śrāddhamācaret | viṣṇoḥ prītikaraṃ vipra tataḥ prātarharerdine || 42 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that śrāddha, when performed before the Śālagrāma (a sacred emblem of Viṣṇu), becomes directly pleasing to Viṣṇu—linking ancestral duty (pitṛ-dharma) with Viṣṇu-bhakti.
By placing śrāddha at the feet of Śālagrāma, the act is transformed from a mere obligation into an offering to Hari, emphasizing devotion through correct intention and worship-centered ritual.
It highlights ritual time-determination (kāla-niyama)—midday as the proper time for śrāddha, with an additional instruction for morning performance on Hari’s sacred day—reflecting applied dharma-ritual procedure.
