Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kṣatriya ethic of direct confrontation in battle: when duty calls, a warrior meets the enemy without hesitation. Bhīma’s controlled choice to enter close combat—despite rising anger—illustrates resolve and commitment to the demands of righteous warfare, where courage and steadfastness are expected.

Sañjaya reports that Bhīma, enraged while facing warriors before him, quickly gets down from his chariot, takes up his mace, and begins fighting them on foot in close quarters.
