Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
दीर्घबाहुर्महाबाहुर्व्यूडोरु: कनकाज्भद: । कुण्डजश्ित्रकश्चैव द:ःशला च शताधिका
dīrghabāhur mahābāhur vyūḍhoruḥ kanakāṅgadaḥ | kuṇḍajaś citrakaś caiva duḥśalā ca śatādhikā ||
وَیشَمپایَن نے کہا—اے راجَن! اُن اولاد میں دیرغباہو، مہاباہو، ویوڈھورو اور کنک آنگد تھے؛ نیز کُنڈج اور چِترک بھی؛ اور دُہشلا—اور ان کے سوا سو سے زیادہ اور بھی تھے۔
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the vastness of a royal lineage; ethically, it suggests that mere numbers, strength, and prestige do not ensure dharma—only disciplined conduct and wise governance prevent kinship and power from turning into conflict.
Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical enumeration, listing several named offspring (including Duḥśalā) and indicating that the total exceeded a hundred, emphasizing the scale of the family and setting context for later dynastic tensions.
