Bhīma’s Search for Water and the Forest Halt
praviveśa mahāsenāṁ makaraḥ sāgaraṁ yathā | svayam abhyadravad bhīmo nāgānīkaṁ gadādharaḥ ||
The verse highlights kṣatriya valor—decisive action and fearlessness in the face of overwhelming forces—while also reminding the reader, through ocean-and-makara imagery, that war is a vast, turbulent element that can swallow all restraint if not governed by dharma.
Vaiśampāyana describes Bhīma entering a massive army formation and then personally charging the elephant division, emphasizing his strength and the sudden, forceful momentum of his assault.
