Maṅkaṇaka Episode
तं प्राह भगवान् रुद्रः किमर्थं नर्तितं त्वया / दृष्ट्वापि देवमीशानं नृत्यति स्म पुनः पुनः
taṃ prāha bhagavān rudraḥ kimarthaṃ nartitaṃ tvayā / dṛṣṭvāpi devamīśānaṃ nṛtyati sma punaḥ punaḥ
پھر بھگوان رُدر نے اس سے کہا: “تم نے کس غرض سے رقص کیا؟ دیویش اِیشان کو دیکھ لینے پر بھی تم بار بار ناچتے ہو۔”
Rudra (Shiva)
Primary Rasa: hasya
Secondary Rasa: shanta
By calling the Lord “Īśāna” and stressing direct “seeing” (darśana), the verse points to the Supreme as a personal Lord who can be realized; the repeated dance suggests continued inner absorption even after a glimpse of that Reality.
The verse implies embodied devotion as sādhana—rhythmic worship (nṛtya) and sustained bhāva. In Kurma Purana’s Shaiva frame, such repeated practice aligns with disciplined devotion that matures into steadiness of mind akin to Pāśupata-oriented worship.
It foregrounds Śiva as Īśāna (the Lord) within the Kurma Purana’s broader synthesis where supreme lordship is expressed through shared theological language; the text often harmonizes Shaiva and Vaishnava devotion rather than treating them as opposed.
