Chapter 59 — अधिवासनकथनं
Adhivāsana: The Rite of Inviting and Stabilizing Hari’s Presence
सङ्कर्षणं सं शब्दात्मा स्पर्शाख्यमसृजत् प्रभुः क्षोभ्य मायां स प्रद्युम्नं तेजोरूपं स चासृजत्
saṅkarṣaṇaṃ saṃ śabdātmā sparśākhyamasṛjat prabhuḥ kṣobhya māyāṃ sa pradyumnaṃ tejorūpaṃ sa cāsṛjat
Lord Agni (narrating the Agni Purana’s teachings, traditionally to Vasiṣṭha)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Maps vyūhas to tanmātra emergence (sound→touch; radiance/tejas principle), useful for doctrinal study, ritual visualization, and meditative correlation of senses with cosmic principles.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Vyūha-Tanmātra Correlation: Saṅkarṣaṇa (Śabda) → Sparśa; Pradyumna (Tejas)","lookup_keywords":["Saṅkarṣaṇa","Pradyumna","śabda","sparśa","vyūha"],"quick_summary":"The verse correlates Saṅkarṣaṇa with the sound-principle and the arising of touch, and Pradyumna with radiance/tejas after Māyā is stirred. It provides a compact mapping between Vaiṣṇava vyūhas and sensory-cosmic categories."}
Concept: Emanation schema: sensory subtle elements arise in sequence, coordinated with divine vyūha manifestations; Māyā’s ‘stirring’ is the trigger for differentiation.
Application: In japa/nyāsa-style contemplation, correlate inner sound (nāda) with Saṅkarṣaṇa and inner light (tejas) with Pradyumna to stabilize attention.
Khanda Section: Vaishnava-Tattva (Pancharatra / Vyuha Cosmology)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Two divine emanations: Saṅkarṣaṇa as a field of sound-waves giving rise to the touch-principle; then Pradyumna emerging as a brilliant tejas-form as Māyā is churned.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural: Saṅkarṣaṇa on left with stylized sound ripples (conch-like wave motifs) birthing a subtle ‘sparśa’ aura; on right Pradyumna as radiant figure with flame-halo; traditional flat composition and bold outlines.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: paired panels with gold work—Saṅkarṣaṇa with conch and sound mandala; Pradyumna with intense golden flame aura; Māyā shown as a dark veil being stirred between them.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore: instructional cosmology illustration; labeled arrows from śabda to sparśa; Pradyumna depicted as tejas orb/figure; clean, didactic layout with delicate ornament.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature: dynamic scene of cosmic stirring—subtle waves in the air around Saṅkarṣaṇa; luminous Pradyumna emerging from swirling clouds; fine detailing and restrained palette."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Hamsadhwani","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: sparśākhyam asṛjat = sparśa-ākhyam + asṛjat; tejorūpaṃ = tejaḥ + rūpam; cāsṛjat = ca + asṛjat.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 59 (vyūha-tattva sequence continuing into tanmātras)
It imparts metaphysical (tattva) knowledge: the Vyuha-based sequence of manifestation where Saṅkarṣaṇa is linked with the sound-principle and the emergence of the touch-principle (sparśa), followed by Māyā’s agitation leading to Pradyumna as the radiance (tejas) principle.
Alongside ritual and dharma topics, the Agni Purana also preserves systematic cosmology—here integrating tantric/Pañcarātra-style Vyuha theory and subtle-element (tanmātra-like) evolution—showing its breadth from theology to technical metaphysics.
Contemplating the Lord as the source of sensory principles and Māyā’s activation supports jñāna (right understanding) and detachment, framing sensory experience (sound/touch) as divine manifestation rather than mere worldly entanglement.
