Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Prāyaścitta-pūrvaka Kumbha-saṃskāra and Śiśu-abhiṣeka","lookup_keywords":["prāyaścitta","kumbha-sammantraṇa","abhiṣeka","śiśu","pīṭha"],"quick_summary":"Complete purification by first doing prāyaścitta, then consecrate and worship the ritual water-pot and perform the child’s abhiṣeka on a designated seat."}

Concept: Śuddhi (ritual purity) as a prerequisite for successful completion (samāpana) of subsequent rites.

Application: Sequence rites correctly: expiation/purification first, then consecration and main act; treat ritual implements (kumbha, pīṭha) as sanctified supports of the act.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Prāyaścitta & Abhiṣeka rites)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

FAQs

It teaches a sequence in ritual practice: perform prāyaścitta for śuddhi (purification), consecrate a kumbha with mantras, worship it, and then conduct the child’s abhiṣeka on a pīṭha.

It preserves procedural ritual technology—expiation, mantra-consecration of ritual implements, and abhiṣeka protocol—showing the text’s practical coverage of domestic and ceremonial rites alongside its many other disciplines.

By placing prāyaścitta first, the rite is framed as removing impurity/ritual fault so that the subsequent consecration and abhiṣeka become spiritually efficacious and merit-bearing.
