Type: kshetra
Listener: A royal figure within the narrative (the 'rājā') and the broader audience of pilgrims
Scene: A king stands with folded hands, offering repeated salutations to a dark-blue-rayed, blue-lotus-hued, emaciated ascetic figure with long beard and matted locks; the setting suggests a coastal sacred tract with ominous yet sanctifying atmosphere.
The hymn teaches reverence toward karmic order: Śani is approached through praise and recognition of his austere, truth-enforcing nature.
Prabhāsakṣetra, as the Māhātmya context in which the Daśaratha Śani-stotra is transmitted.
Stotra-recitation is implied; the verse marks the beginning of a formal hymn used in devotional practice for graha appeasement.
