Transliteration

āsīnmahendranāmā ca dānavo raudrarūpadhṛk | koṭivarṣāṇi tenaiva tapastaptaṃ purā priye

Translation

Noong unang panahon, minamahal, may isang Dānava na nagngangalang Mahendra, na may mabagsik na anyo. Sa loob ng milyun-milyong taon, nagsagawa siya ng mahigpit na pag-aayuno at pagninilay (tapas).
