Type: ghat
Listener: Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya
Scene: Yudhiṣṭhira, seated respectfully, questions Mārkaṇḍeya; behind them the Narmadā flows, indicating the setting of the tīrtha discourse; the mood is attentive and contemplative.
In tīrtha-māhātmya narratives, spiritual authority is often established through the life-story and lineage of the realized practitioner.
Dāru-tīrtha on the Narmadā’s northern bank (introduced in the preceding verse).
None; the verse is an inquiry that sets up the tīrtha’s glorification through a saint’s biography.
