To the One, Svāhā! To the Two, Svāhā! To the Hundred, Svāhā! To the Hundred-and-one, Svāhā! To the Dawning, Svāhā! To Heaven, Svāhā!
Because the Aśvamedha must proceed under divine impulsion (prasava) and clear intention (sumati). Savitṛ, as the Impeller, is asked to illumine the intellect (bharga) and grant unfailing bounty so the rite is rightly directed.
Agni is kindled and affirmed as the immortal havyavāhana and yajña-dūta. He summons the gods and carries the offerings so that the sacrifice becomes communicative and effective rather than merely performed.
They sacralize and secure the ritual field in all quarters—east through down—so that the rite’s outward expansion is protected and centered. This complements the horse’s sanctioned movement by placing it within a guarded cosmic space.
