Hiraṇyanetra’s Austerity and the Boon
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
The verse asserts Shiva’s sovereign prabhāva (divine potency) and upholds dharma through right speech: even in conflict, false claims and improper words bind the soul, while truth aligns one with Pati (Shiva), the supreme Lord.
Shiva speaks as the personal Lord (saguṇa, accessible in form and dialogue) whose authority is worshipped through the Liṅga; recognizing his true nature—rather than projecting false familiarity—grounds devotion in reverence and correct understanding.
The practical takeaway is discipline of speech and mind (satya, saṃyama) supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” which steadies the devotee in truth and humility before Shiva’s prabhāva.
