Ravana’s Lament on Hearing of Kumbhakarna’s Slaying
प्रतपित्वा मुहूर्तंतुप्रशान्तोरामतेजसा ।कायेनार्थप्रविष्टेनसमुद्रंभीमदर्शनम् ।।।।निकृत्तकण्ठोरुभुजोविक्षरन्रुधिरंबहु ।रुद्ध्वाद्वारंशरीरेणलङ्कायाःपर्वतोपमः ।।।।कुम्भकर्णस्तवभ्राताकाकुत्स्थशरपीडितः ।लगण्डभूतोविकृतोदावदग्धइवद्रुमः ।।।।
pratapitvā muhūrtaṃ tu praśānto rāma-tejasā |
kāyenārtha-praviṣṭena samudraṃ bhīma-darśanam ||
nikṛtta-kaṇṭhoru-bhujo vikṣaran rudhiraṃ bahu |
ruddhvā dvāraṃ śarīreṇa laṅkāyāḥ parvatopamaḥ ||
kumbhakarṇas tava bhrātā kākutstha-śara-pīḍitaḥ |
lagaṇḍa-bhūto vikṛto dāva-dagdha iva drumaḥ ||
Sandaling nag-alab ang lakas ng iyong kapatid na si Kumbhakarṇa, ngunit pinatahimik siya ng nagniningas na tejas ni Rāma. Ang kanyang katawang tila bundok—putol-putol, nagbubuhos ng saganang dugo—ay nakahandusay na parang nakapanghihilakbot na dagat ng pagkawasak, at sa mismong bangkay niya’y nabara ang tarangkahan ng Laṅkā. Tinamaan ng mga palaso ni Kakutstha, siya’y naging baluktot at pangit, gaya ng punong tinupok ng apoy sa gubat.
"Thus, loss of both Kumbhakarna and Prahastha is dreadful. It is because of not following the words of advice of Vibheeshana totally. It hurts me."
Adharma-driven aggression culminates in inevitable ruin; the verse underscores that moral disorder produces visible, devastating consequences.
A report is delivered to Rāvaṇa describing Kumbhakarṇa’s death and the horrific state of his fallen body at the gate of Laṅkā.
Rāma’s steadfast valor and disciplined power—his ‘tejas’—is shown as decisive and unwavering in restoring order on the battlefield.
