Ang kanilang mga baluti ay wasak; ang kanilang mga busog ay naitapon. Ang dalawang bayani ay nakahiga sa lupa, ang kanilang mga katawan ay tadtad ng mga palaso.
Thereafter Sita beheld both Rama and Lakshmana lying on the bed of arrows, unconscious, struck by arrows, with shields of darts, arrows with feathers, all limbs wounded with shattered armour, bows and reeds.
Dharma is tested under suffering: even the righteous may endure extreme affliction, reminding the reader that moral worth is not measured by uninterrupted success.
Sītā is being made to witness Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa in a grievously wounded state, a scene intended to break her resolve.
For Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, steadfast endurance; for the narrative, the dignity of dharma even when the body is overwhelmed.
