Vibhīṣaṇa’s Counsel to Rāvaṇa and the Rākṣasa Court
इदंपुरस्यास्यसराक्षसस्यराज्ञश्चपथ्यंससुहृज्जनस्य ।सम्यग्घिवाक्यंस्वमतंब्रवीमिनरेन्द्रपुत्रायददामपत्नीम् ।।।।
idaṃ purasyāsya sa-rākṣasasya rājñaś ca pathyaṃ sa-suhṛjjanasyā | samyag hi vākyaṃ svamataṃ bravīmi narendraputrāya dadāma patnīm ||
Ito ang kapaki-pakinabang na payo para sa lungsod na ito ng mga rākṣasa, para sa hari, at para sa lahat ng kanyang mga kaibigang tapat: sinasabi ko ang wastong pasya—ibalik sa anak ng hari ang kanyang asawa.
"We are not afraid of Yakshas, Gandharvas, or even Nagas. We have no fear of birds or reptiles. What fear can we have of the king's son, Rama?"
Dharma is expressed as restitution and protection of the polity: returning Sītā is the righteous remedy that safeguards king, city, and people from the fallout of adharma.
Vibhīṣaṇa offers explicit policy advice in Rāvaṇa’s court: hand Sītā back to Rāma as the only salutary course.
Integrity in counsel—placing the common good and truth above personal security or courtly approval.
