Sarga 111: Counsel on Gurus, Parental Debt, and Bharata’s Protest
एषोऽपि हि महाभागः पितुर्वचसि तिष्ठति।अत एव न शक्ताः स्मो व्यावर्तयितुमञ्जसा।।।।
eṣo 'pi hi mahābhāgaḥ pitur vacasi tiṣṭhati | ata eva na śaktāḥ smo vyāvartayitum añjasā ||
Sapagkat ang mapalad na ito ay matatag na naninindigan sa utos ng kanyang ama; kaya hindi namin siya kayang pabalikin nang madali o bigla.
Highly distinguished Rama is firmly fixed on the command of his father. That is why we are incapable of making him return quickly.
Dharma is steadfast adherence to a rightful promise: Rama’s commitment to his father’s word is portrayed as unshakeable, even under intense social pressure.
The citizens explain to Bharata that Rama is immovable because he is anchored in Daśaratha’s command, so they cannot persuade him to return.
